In recent years, he has become extremely interested in world energy consumption and is working with local, state, and the Federal Government to find ways to limit its use. He is the current Co-Chairman of Pump Systems Matter Market Transformation Initiative, and in 2006, he became Vice President of the Fluid Sealing Association.

Bill initiated the successful collaboration between the former Durametallic Corporation (now Flowserve) and Western Michigan University. In 1994 his vision and leadership led to the formation of the Advanced Tribology Center at Western Michigan University and the leveraging of well over $8.5 million in government funds and grants. With his continued leadership, the center has developed into an internationally recognized research and testing facility. He is a “visionary” who is constantly looking for ways of improving the company and making things better for the people it employs.
In 2002 working with Southwest Michigan First and Michigan Technical Education Center at Kalamazoo Valley Community College he successfully launched a new Flowserve Training Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This program combines the talents of both organizations to bring industry programs and courses that train new Technicians and enhances the skills of existing craftsmen.
